About Me

My name is Douglas Weaver. I will be graduating from Columbia College in 2011 with my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Painting. In my time at Columbia College I have been the vice president and off-campus representative for Student Government, founder of Columbia College Campus Crusades, the manager of the Larson Gallery on campus, and the president of Art Club. After graduation, I plan to get my Master’s of Fine Arts degree and eventually teach art at the college level.

I have always been interested in the creative field and have pursued most forms of art, though painting is my specialty. I am not only experienced in conventional studio painting, but have done everything from theatre backdrops to tiny dollhouse canvases. I am skilled in drawing with graphite, charcoal, and pastels. I also enjoy printmaking with linocuts and woodcuts, though my favorite styles are etching and aquatint. I have some experience with sculpture and will be working with jewelry throughout my final year.

I also love literature and music. I believe that reading and learning outside of the classroom are very important parts of being an artist. Whether it is The Letters of Vincent Van Gogh or Jane Eyre, there is always something to enrich the mind. Throughout history, one can rarely find an accomplished artist who is not also an avid reader. I have played the piano since I was very young, and I have always been active in vocal music and theatre.

I have an immense passion for art, whether it be on canvas, through music, or in writing, and I hope to be able to share my talents with others throughout my life.
